Advanced Fluid End Technology – Designed for High Pressure and Long Life
The fluid end of the EMSCO FD-1600 is the core working part of the pump, directly subjected to the erosion and wear of high-pressure mud. We have specifically designed and optimized the fluid end for high-pressure operating environments, ensuring its long-lasting durability in extreme conditions.
Superior Materials and Precision Manufacturing Processes
Modules: Fluid end modules for high-pressure applications are made from high-quality, heat-treated forged alloy steel (35CrMo, 40CrMnMo, or 4130/4135 steel). These modules are manufactured in strict compliance with API 7K standards and undergo meticulous non-destructive testing (NDT) and internal hardening treatments to achieve maximum durability, effectively resisting erosion and stress cracking.
Liners: Various options are available to suit different operating conditions:
Bimetal High Chrome Liner: The outer shell is made of high-strength forged carbon steel (45# steel), and the inner liner is centrifugally cast from high-chrome cast iron (Rockwell hardness HRC 62-69). This liner offers excellent wear and corrosion resistance, with a service life exceeding 800 hours. The "HP Lip" design prevents the inner liner from sliding under high pressure.
Ceramic Liner (Zirconia/Alumina): The outer shell is forged steel, and the inner liner is made of zirconia (ZrO₂) or alumina (Al₂O₃) ceramic material. Zirconia liners offer superior toughness and longer service life (up to 4000+ hours), with extremely high hardness (Zirconia HRC 90+), making them ideal for highly abrasive and high-temperature conditions.
Pistons: Made from high-performance bonded polyurethane or special rubber compounds, with the piston core made from forged 42CrMo alloy steel. Designed for 7500 PSI conditions, they offer excellent tear, wear, and extrusion resistance to various drilling fluids (oil-based, water-based, synthetic-based) and can operate at temperatures up to 220°F-300°F (104°C-149°C). "Bullnose" lips or multi-durometer designs enhance sealing effectiveness and reduce wear.
Valves and Valve Seats: The FD-1600 uses API #7 full-open valves. Forged from high-quality alloy steel (20CrMnTi carburized steel or AISI 8620), they undergo carburizing and quenching treatments to achieve high surface hardness (HRC 60+) and a tough core, ensuring optimal sealing performance. Durable polyurethane valve inserts extend service life (over 300-400 hours).
Piston Rods: Manufactured from high-strength forged alloy steel, such as 42CrMo or SAE 4140. They are heat-treated to achieve high tensile strength and toughness, then precision ground and hard chrome-plated for excellent wear and corrosion resistance.
Seals and Gaskets: Made from high-quality nitrile rubber (NBR) or polyurethane (PU) materials for valve cover seals, liner seals, piston seals, etc., ensuring reliable sealing under high pressure and varying temperatures.
Valve Covers: The standard FD-1600 comes with screw-in valve pot covers. We also offer quick-change valve cover system options integrated with compatible 7500 PSI fluid ends (Premium Oilfield Technologies' Sur-Lock™ system or Forum's P-Quip ML series), which significantly reduce valve maintenance time and enhance safety by eliminating hammering operations.
Revolutionary BLAK-JAK™ Liner Replacement System (LRS) – Redefining Safety and Efficiency
The EMSCO FD-1600 mud pump integrates the industry-leading NOV BLAK-JAK™ Liner Replacement System (LRS), a technology designed to significantly improve liner replacement operations. This system greatly enhances operational safety by eliminating traditional hammering, and substantially reduces maintenance time.
BLAK-JAK™ LRS Core Components and Advanced Materials
Lok-CEL™:
This component mechanically secures the liner during pump operation. Its body and locking ring are made from high-yield strength alloy steel, ensuring robustness in today's high-stress drilling environments.
Hydra-CEL™:
This is a removable hydraulic assist unit. It is responsible for placing the Lok-CEL™ under tension while simultaneously applying compression to the liner. Its main structure is made from lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and is anodized for enhanced corrosion resistance. This unit is equipped with a pressure relief valve to prevent overpressure and has a large hydraulic cylinder to ensure reliable metal-to-metal contact between the liner and the pump body.
Operating Principle – Safe, Even Clamping Force
The Hydra-CEL™ hydraulically applies tension to the Lok-CEL™, which in turn mechanically locks the liner with a uniform circumferential clamping force. This active metal-to-metal contact effectively prevents liner movement and erosion, ensuring the sealing integrity of the fluid end.
Significant Benefits for Drilling Operations
Greatly Reduced Maintenance Time:
Compared to traditional OEM configurations, the BLAK-JAK™ LRS can reduce liner replacement time by up to 75%.
Enhanced Operational Safety:
Eliminates the need for heavy hammering, thereby reducing the risk of impact injuries and improving personnel safety.
Extended Liner and Piston Life:
Uniform clamping force and effective suppression of liner movement reduce liner and piston wear and prevent liner washouts.
Reduced Hydraulic Load:
This system can reduce the hydraulic load on the liner face by as much as 65% compared to some competing designs.
Simplified Maintenance:
The entire system only requires maintenance of one Hydra-CEL™ unit, rather than multiple independent hydraulic components as in some competing products.
Perfect Compatibility with EMSCO FD-1600
The BLAK-JAK™ LRS is perfectly integrated and fully compatible with EMSCO FD-1600 (as well as FC-1600, FB-1600 series) mud pumps.
The hammer-less operation of the BLAK-JAK™ LRS is a significant safety improvement, directly addressing a common source of injury in rig maintenance. For drilling contractors, Lost Time Incidents (LTI) are extremely costly, so technologies that can significantly reduce injury risk (like the BLAK-JAK™ system) are highly valued. Furthermore, the combined benefits of the BLAK-JAK™ LRS (faster change-outs, longer liner/piston life, reduced washouts) translate into compounded cost savings by reducing Non-Productive Time (NPT), lowering spare parts consumption, and potentially decreasing the frequency of fluid end overhauls. While the initial investment for a BLAK-JAK™ equipped pump might be slightly higher, its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) can be significantly lower. Reduced NPT is a direct saving, and extended wear part life means fewer purchases. Preventing washouts avoids costly fluid end damage. This TCO advantage is highly attractive to budget-conscious operators.
Robust Power End – Durable and Reliable Core
The power end of the EMSCO FD-1600 mud pump is the source of its immense power, designed and manufactured to withstand extremely harsh operating conditions, ensuring long periods of trouble-free operation.
Power End Structure and Components
Frame Structure: The power end frame utilizes heavy-duty welded steel plate construction, meticulously designed and manufactured to possess extremely high rigidity and strength. After welding, the entire frame undergoes stress-relieving treatment to ensure dimensional stability and service life under high-load operation.
Gear System:
Type: Employs precisely machined double helical gears (herringbone gears), providing smooth power transmission, low noise, and high torque capacity.
Materials and Standards: Gears and pinions are typically made from forged, heat-treated alloy steel, designed and manufactured to meet or exceed AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association) standards, ensuring their durability and load-bearing capacity.
Crankshaft: Features a unitary construction, forged from high-strength modified alloy steel (4340 or 35CrMo/40CrMnMo), heat-treated to enhance toughness and fatigue resistance, and dynamically balanced to ensure smooth, vibration-free operation.
Bearings: Main shaft, pinion shaft, and connecting rods all utilize high-quality heavy-duty roller bearings to ensure reliability and long life under high-load conditions. Crosshead bearings are also meticulously designed for excellent durability. Standard FD-1600 main bearings are spherical roller bearings, and pinion bearings are straight roller bearings.
Crosshead Assembly: Manufactured from high-quality cast steel or ductile iron, equipped with replaceable manganese bronze guide plates. This combination provides a low-friction, wear-resistant surface, ensuring smooth operation. The FD-1600's crosshead guide plates are replaceable.
Lubrication System: Employs a comprehensive lubrication system combining forced lubrication and splash lubrication, ensuring continuous and adequate oil supply to all critical power end components (gears, bearings, crossheads, guide plates, pony rods). This system typically includes a built-in gear oil pump, oil filter, oil cooler (water-cooled or air-cooled heat exchanger), and pressure gauge for monitoring lubrication status.
The robust construction of the power end (forged/cast alloy steel crankshaft, AGMA-grade herringbone gears, heavy-duty bearings, comprehensive lubrication system) is crucial for reliably driving the 7500 PSI fluid end. The power end must be able to withstand the immense forces generated. Compared to 5000 PSI systems, 7500 PSI fluid ends impose significantly higher cyclical loads on power end components. Without a power end constructed with high-strength materials (e.g., forged alloy steel crankshaft), precision gears (AGMA standards), and robust bearings, premature failure would be inevitable. Our OEM design ensures a perfect match for these components. Simultaneously, high loads generate substantial heat in bearings and gears. An effective lubrication system with cooling and filtration is vital for maintaining oil viscosity, removing wear particles, and dissipating heat, thereby ensuring these critical components achieve their designed service life.
Standard High-Pressure Accessories – Ensuring Continuous Operation
To ensure the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the EMSCO FD-1600 mud pump under 7500 PSI high-pressure conditions, we equip it with a series of standard high-pressure accessories. These accessories work in conjunction with the pump body to form a complete high-performance fluid delivery system.
Pulsation Dampener:
Equipped with a high-capacity pulsation dampener (K-20 or KB-75 models) specifically designed for 7500 PSI conditions, effectively reducing discharge pressure fluctuations, protecting downstream equipment, and ensuring smoother drilling fluid delivery. The dampener housing is typically made of forged steel and fitted with high-quality rubber bladders.
Safety Valve:
An API-compliant shear pin or resettable safety valve is installed and reliably calibrated for 7500 PSI system protection, serving as a critical component for safeguarding the pump and manifold system.
Liner Spray System:
An efficient integrated liner spray system (consisting of a pinion shaft belt-driven or motor-driven centrifugal pump, cooling water tank, spray lines/nozzles) provides continuous cooling and lubrication to the liners and pistons, which is crucial for extending the service life of these critical wear parts under high-load conditions.
Convenient Maintenance and Excellent Operational Design Philosophy
The EMSCO FD-1600 mud pump was designed from the outset with convenient field maintenance and operational safety in mind, and these advantages are further enhanced when equipped with the L-type fluid end and BLAK-JAK™ LRS system.
Maintenance-Friendly Structural Design
Despite the robust construction of the FD-1600, its design allows for easy access to critical wear parts. The L-type fluid end design itself facilitates easier valve replacement compared to some integral designs.
Quick Change Capability
We offer a variety of transmission components
The BLAK-JAK™ LRS system significantly reduces liner replacement time, by up to 75%.
Compatible quick-change valve cover systems (such as Sur-Lock™ or Forum's P-Quip ML series) can further reduce downtime for valve and valve seat maintenance, replacing traditional time-consuming bolted or threaded valve covers.
For drilling operations, minimizing Non-Productive Time (NPT) is crucial. Features that directly reduce maintenance time (such as BLAK-JAK™ LRS and quick-change valve covers) can translate into significant cost savings and improved drilling efficiency.
