Gardner Denver GQ-GXQ Double-cylinder pump
Power end
All-in-one frame: rock solid integrity
The GQ-GXQ power end housing is a one-piece alloy cast iron structure noted for its exceptional rigidity. One-piece casting eliminates couplings and potential trouble spots, ensuring perfect alignment of all internal components under extreme piston rod loads (up to 11,340 pounds for similar pump models) .
Driveline: precision engineered power transmission
The continuous herringbone gear is adopted in the transmission system, and the main gear and the eccentric wheel are cast into a rigid whole unit. The crankshaft is made of high strength ductile iron, and the connecting rod is also made of ductile iron.
Herringbone gear: this double helix design provides multiple points of contact, ensuring smooth, quiet transmission of power, and has self-aligning characteristics that greatly reduce wear and tear compared to conventional gears.
Ductile iron: ductile iron (or ductile iron) has superior strength, fatigue resistance and toughness compared to standard cast iron. It is a direct engineering decision to use this material on key components such as crankshaft and connecting rod to deal with the huge periodic load of double-cylinder pump, aiming at eliminating the risk of failure fundamentally.
Integrated Eccentric/Gear: this design ensures complete synchronisation and rigidity in the transmission of power from the gear to the connecting rod, eliminating any risk of slippage or misalignment that could lead to catastrophic failure.
Bearings and crossheads: harnessing extreme loads
The pump uses adjustable tapered roller main bearings and roller intermediate shaft bearings. The connecting rod has a high-lead bronze bushing at the crank end and a bronze bushing at the crosshead end. The crossheads are made of solid alloy cast iron and reinforced around oversized crosshead pins. The selection of the bronze bushing is crucial; it is an excellent bearing material, both robust and somewhat fault tolerant, which effectively prevents locking and serves as a sacrificial wear surface to protect the more expensive crankshaft and connecting rod.
Lubrication systems: the lifeblood of reliability
The internal working parts of the power end are lubricated by a total splash/immersion system provided by the large oil grooves in the crankcase 3, while the main bearings are grease lubricated.
The hydrodynamic end: a model of material science and hydraulic performance
Hydraulic end cylinders: forged for durability
Hydraulic end blocks are available in a variety of materials, including one-piece alloy cast iron and a more robust split cast steel construction. For extreme performance, Gardner also offers stainless steel hydraulic end options. This gives the customer a clear"Better, better, better" path:
Alloy cast iron: provides a durable and cost-effective solution for routine and mud operations.
Cast Steel: provides superior strength and impact resistance and is ideal for higher pressure and harsher applications.
Stainless Steel: top option. Its value can be quantified: "It lasts four to six times longer than carbon steel". This means fewer replacements, shorter downtime, and significantly lower total cost of ownership, especially in corrosive environments.
Designed for easy maintenance: valve on valve system
Hydraulic end valve cylinder design, above each valve has an independent, can be bolted to the valve cover. This design is based on extensive field experience. Each valve can be serviced individually, eliminating the need to remove most components from the hydraulic side. This greatly reduces maintenance time, meaning pumps can be brought back online more quickly, maximizing production efficiency.
Durable consumables: the science of wearing parts
Cylinder liner: the first line of defense against wear and tear
Cylinder liners are removable and interchangeable, offering a wide choice of materials such as hardened steel, chrome plated and zirconia. Each material offers unique advantages:
Hardened steel: the basic standard for durability.
Chromium plating: provides a harder, lower coefficient of friction surface, enhanced wear resistance and extended packing life.
Zirconia (ceramics) : the ultimate solution to extreme abrasion and corrosion. Its diamond-like hardness and chemical inertness make it the first choice for handling the most aggressive pulps and greatly extend its life.
Piston and rod: tailor-made for specific tasks
A wide range of pistons are available for various service conditions, including solid iron pistons with cast iron rings for oil service, iron/Steel Cup Pistons for general service, and bronze pistons for hydraulic service.
The rod is made of steel and taper-fitted to the piston. This design ensures a tight, self-tightening connection during constant reversal of load.
Valves and seats: precision sealed, unobstructed
Valves are usually wing-or bottom-stem-oriented and are available in a variety of materials such as iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, or bronze for various service conditions. The wing-pilot design facilitates stable, low-turbulence flow, improving hydraulic efficiency and reducing valve and seat wear. A wide selection of materials, particularly stainless steel, enables the customer to respond to specific corrosion challenges, ensuring long-term effective sealing and preventing loss of efficiency.
